What is up with these damn rebels?! They’re annoying! And to all you rednecks out there; you do know the Confederaytes weren’t American don’t you?

Preserve the Union!
Actually, I live in Pennsylvania, and everybody around here has one. What is up with these dand rednecks?! Thery’re annoying! And to all you Confederates out there; you do know the Rebels were not American. Dang, you weirdos make Yankees like me sick! Take you’re Stars and Bars to China or something. Maybe they’ll like it more…
Do you know who you are speaking to? And yes you are right. I hate ths place. And I’ll have you know I’m pure Yankee and I’ve traveled all over the north-east and into the Deep South!
You know, Jekin is the only one with a decent answer here. So many years ago, my town was a land where people loved the U.S. . Heck even one of my ancestors was in the Federal Army in the Civil War. THIS IS NOT WHAT HE SUFFERED EXCRUTIATING PAIN FOR!!!!
dlobryan1, your story is touching…I do the same thing when I see that horrible flag. The reason I hate the Confederate flag is for the glory of our fallen Yankee ancestors. Many people who own that flag don’t even know what it stood for… It stood for the unfairness of slavery. And today, we all know that slavery is a horrible thing. I only believe that no man should have to bow to another. That is why I hate the Confederacy… I’m sorry if I’m making you people angry, but the United States of America is what I stand for…
I don’t think you people who are actually Yankees get what I’m saying in my question. I hate Confederates. Because of them my ancestor had to suffer for the rest of his life. I think the Confederate flag should be banned. It’s a disgrace to our true American past.
FOR THE LAST TIME! I LIVE IN THE NORTH IN A REDNECK COUNTY IN PENNSYLVANIA! I’M PRETTY MUCH THE ONLY YANKEE IN MY COUNTY!!!!!

Simon is a Brit and by definition grossly ignorant about Americanisms. But Paula Abdul? I mean, has this woman never been south of the Mason-Dixon line?

How could anyone possibly think that someone saying “Be careful” was a “threat”? Am I the ONLY person who has ever heard someone say goodbye in this way?

Which American cuisine do you like the best? Here are the options:
~ New England (clam chowder, boiled dinners, baked beans, lobster, maple syrup, etc.)
~ New York Deli style (mostly German/Jewish cuisine)
~ Pennsylvania Amish (doughnuts, egg noodles, etc.)
~ Southern (Chesapeake seafood, BBQ, Smithfield ham, Low Country, Cajun/Creole, Appalachian, cornbread, biscuits, grits, blackberry cobbler, etc.)
~ Southwestern (AKA Tex-Mex)
~ Midwestern (basic meat and potatoes type dishes, Chicago deep dish pizza, Pierogies, etc.)

This is done out of boredom, just curious.

…if the Europeans came from Europe with British accents, how did it end up that people in the South now have a Southern accent?
Did they somehow just come up with it on their own? Or was that English influenced by some other type of English, or some other language originally spoken in the American South?
