I was wondering because we are south of the mason-dixon line and we say all and we have towns not citys. And we were going to seceed but Lincoln forced us to be a border state. And i act south have confederate flags in my room and listen to country. But i live in NC now. so what is it?

The Mason-dixon line cuts Maryland off from the north, but what I really want to know is if any people who live in the southern states feel that Maryland is with you.
HC, many parts of north carolina are geographically more southern than TN, some parts are more southern than SC and even GA, how is NC barely a southern state?

Since the PA / MD border is the Mason-Dixon Line, shouldn’t MD be, by definition, a Southern state?

okay i grew up in an area of Maryland where we were very southern and i was raised southern belle. Then i moved into the city of Baltimore and it was completely different. When i tell people i want to go to school south of the mason dixon line they look at me and go “so you don’t want to go to college in Maryland?” even Maryland is different! Can anyone provide help for why Maryland is lost in origins?

I’ve had lots of debates with people about this. I think it is, since technically anything below the Mason-Dixon line is a southern state. Other people disagree though and consider it northern, citing the fact that Maryland always remained a Union state in the Civil War. What say you?

Mason and Dixon were both from England. Some believe Dixon is the origin of the term Dixie so I would have to choose the Dixon side ![]()
