Why Do Southerners Exert Disproportionate Political Influence In Florida?
Fact: There are more foreign immigrants and Northern transplants in Florida than Southerners, by a WIDE margin. So I’ve never been able to understand why the Southern conservative Republican faction in our state is able to exert such undue influence on our politics, especially on social issues. 50 years ago before “one man one vote”, it was because they prevented appropriate apportionment of seats to South Florida. But today, I have no clue how they do it. Anybody from Florida or familiar with the state’s politics know?

I am from Mexico and California. Most people are from Indiana and Illinois. Many from Cuba and the Dominican Republic. There are people from everywhere.
The politically active are the children of the first landowners here.
The Orange Grove folks, the Cattle folks.
The rest of us could care less.
We just live here in Florida and complain about snakes, gators, and bugs.
“Obama? Sounds like an Irish Cop to me… I was a cop in Indianapolis for 36 years you know… Mrs. Field’s poodle got eaten by a Gator yesterday. It was walking in her yard. Let Fluffy out to pee, and CHOMP…”
We don’t care. Let the republicans worry about politics.
I’m hot, I’m going to lay in front of my fan for awhile.
Did you see that snake?
Because the foreign immigrants and Northern transplants are not politically active.
Reality Check! They all live in the South.
