wow I want to move up North then!
The flag makes me feel odd.
What if I found the black panther flag and placed it up…….is that another form of Southern pride?
Just asking……
Well, I believe it’s ignorance. The Majority of the people that learn about the Confederate flag have been brought up learning it means one thing and one thing only:
Racism. I find this highly idiotic and even more so that when you try and explain to them what it truly symbolizes they just go off on you like you could never be right and what they learned is the only truth.
Similar to the Swastika, which is a incorrectly viewed symbol(look it up if you didn’t know), the Confederate flag symbolizes Heritage and Southern Pride. The reason I believe that they view this as racism solely is the fact that in school they don’t educate people on it very well. They only say, “The south only wanted blacks as slave and nothing else mattered. Blah blah blah White power in the south.”
This is very, very untrue. Lincoln owned slaves, but yet they consider him a national hero. Ironic, very much so. I remember arguing in school once about this and ended up getting punished for sporting a Confederate flag. You know the worst part was not a single black person there said I was racist(though they knew me) and all agreed it’s just a symbol of Heritage. Like sporting an Israeli flag and everyone thinking it means Terrorism right away, people’s views are not going to be easily changed. Maybe one day…
*edit*
By the way, all the awful remarks towards the OP are unnecessary. He asked a legit question and you guys couldn’t come up with any kind of educated response other than, “Talk to yo masta YA pick his cotton AHh.” You should honestly think about the things you say sometimes.
It is not the same as a black panther flag or a KKK flag. This is another example of mis-education. The KKK was not always a hate group and originally was set out to stop Blacks and other races from beating/raping white women. You can see how that seems like it, as it targeted non-whites, but that’s how it was then and now people view it as a solely racist group(which today things have probably changed.)
Please read up on something before you try and throw your two cents into it. I don’t care if you are 50 or 100 years old, of course you will view the South as an awful place, especially if you are black and suffered there, but since You didn’t live during the Civil War and weren’t part of the Confederate states then don’t assume it was only about racism.
ill agree with anyone
Confederate Flag is a Sign of Southern Pride.
I’m From Texas and have been to every southern state and seen people wearing shirts with the flag and whatnot, but I have more things to worry about
I understand the History,History is my best subject so i’m not dismissing what it once meant and stood for,but it’s 2009.
Politically correctness is ridiculous.
A wigger like Taylor V can say she prefers black men but if a native from Peru or a black from Cuba says they prefer white men, all hell breaks loose.
People talk about Southern “pride” here, as though they’ve got something to be proud of…
The south represented slavery. THAT’s why northerners care.
I say let it fly, don’t mean nothing.
Just be sure to fly the stars & stripes above it.
I love the confederate flag.
I am Jewish, and proud of the Jewish influence on the Confederacy and how the South took in Jews from the anti-semetic Union, mainly Ulyssis S. Grant.
The Confederate Flag was designed by a German tobacco plantation owner at the dawn of the Civil War. Southerners were looking for a symbol to represent their new nation, which one of the reasons they seceded was because they did not want to abolish slavery.
YOU are an idiot if you say the Confederate flag has nothing to do with slavery. By waving the Confederate Flag, you are stating: “I support slavery and segregation”
The swatsika may have ancient origins, but the Nazis used it to promote their “Aryan superiority”. It’s the same principle with the Confederate Flag.
I agree. We have freedom of expression in this country. To most who display it, the flag represents Southern pride and states rights, not slavery and racism.
